Prompt: Write about an object that holds sentimental value and why it’s important to you.

My grandmother’s old locket holds a lot of sentimental value to me. It’s a small gold heart with a tiny clasp that opens to reveal two pictures inside. One side has a picture of her as a young woman, and the other has a photo of me when I was a baby. She gave it to me last year on my birthday, saying it was a reminder of how connected we are. Whenever I wear it, I feel closer to her, even though she lives far away now. The locket isn’t perfect—it has a few scratches from years of use—but that makes it even more special because it shows how long it’s been loved. When I’m nervous or anxious, I sometimes hold it in my hand, and it helps calm me down. It’s not just a piece of jewelry; it’s a little piece of family history. To me, the locket represents love, memories, and the bond I’ll always have with my grandma.

Today in class we learned about characterization.
